Anusarn Night Market

Anusarn is definitely the place to go for shopping and night market experience. Just one block next from Kalare Night Bazaar. It is much bigger and has so much more to offer. Many stalls with everything from souvenirs to everyday household needs. There are many food venders as well. I was here on my last day and did not have time to check every part of the market but definitely a place I will be returning to.

Kalare Night Bazaar

Kalare is the first night bazaar when walking down Chang Klan Rd from ThaPae Rd. It is one of the smaller night bazaars in the area but this can be hard to tell since Chang Klan rd is just one night bazaar after another. Upon entering, I notice that the food courts here are more prominent than stalls selling souvenirs and other goods. There weren’t many people here as compared to the other bazaars in the area. Anusarn Night Bazaar one block down is much bigger and has more to offer. You can save time by just passing Kalare and go directly to Anusarn.

Address: Chang Klan Rd

Directions: Between ThaPae Rd and Loi Kroh Rd.

Flower Market

If you enjoy fresh cut flowers, check out the flower market on Praisanee Road. It runs along the Ping River both night and day. There are all varieties of flowers available to purchase a single flower to an arrangement. My favorite are the Lotus flowers. These are popular with locals as well and often brought to temples and left as offerings.

Baan Tawai Village

About a 30-45 minute drive outside Chiang Mai is Baan Tawai Village which is known for hand-made Thai crafts. More specifically it is a great place to purchase wood carved panels if you are in the market. They mostly depict a Buddhist figure or scene. The carving range from panels to Buddha heads all carved from wood. The ones carved from Teak wood are more expensive.

Some negotiating can be done but you have to factor in the shipping. Depending on the size it can be quite expensive. I was also told that they could not ship any of the carved Buddha heads.  I went here on my last day and did not have much time to explore around. I would definitely return and plan on spending a good part of the day. I traveled here on the scooter I rented so returning with any items was impossible. Another thing to consider.

Hours:
Monday through Saturday, 9:00 am to 6:00 pm.  Closed Sunday.
