Don Julio

Dinning at Don Julio is a wonderful experience.  While I didn’t have a reservation, they were able to seat me at the bar. While I was waiting outside, the hostess gave me and everyone waiting, a glass of champagne. This happened each of the three times I dined here during this last trip.  One night they even came out and served hors d’oeuvres.

I was seated at the bar which only has room for two. A small basket of bread is immediately placed in front me along with small spreads which was very good.  I started off with one sweetcorn empanada. Which was excellent. For the main course I had the beef tenderloin and a side order on mashed potatoes.

The steak was cooked perfectly to medium-rare. I highly recommend!  Also, the sweetcorn empanada was so good, the next time I ate here I order two and another two to take away.  Reservations are highly recommended!

La Carniceria

Stopped in at this small eatery and was fortunate to get a seat at the bar.  Reservation are a must and keep in mind they only give you 10 minutes to show up or they give your table to who ever is waiting and you lose your reservation.

The staff are friendly, helpful and speak English.  They also have menus in English.  I had the homemade sausage and the stuffed potato.  The potato was awesome. It is filled with sour cream, chives and their sausage.  They also rub the potato with sea salt.  Just season perfectly.  The homemade sausage is one large link, two fried eggs, peas and small potatoes.

I regret not getting a steak. They looked great.  However, I hope not to sit at the bar next time. The steel seat was very uncomfortable and I was sitting directly across from the burner where they cook the steaks.  Way to hot.

Santa Elena Bakery

A small bakery with great pastries and baked goods.  They also have a wide variety of lunch sandwiches and food to go. They have a few table for dining in but the majority of their business is to go.  What I liked best is they open very early, 7am.  That is early by Argentina standards.

Que Rika

Que Rika is a small bakery that has some delicious pastries and sandwiches.  The focus is on pastries but it is also a good place to go and pick up a pre-wrapped sandwich to take on a hike.  I went here several days in a row.  I felt this was the best bakery in town and would definitely go here again.
