Santichaiprakan Park

This park is rather small and sits on the bank of Chao Phraya. When facing the river, to the right is Phra Suman Fort. In the park is the last Lamphu tree in the area. There is also a beautiful carved stone wall with what looks to be a history of the people from the region. I did not see any plaque with a description of what this large carving represents. Also in the park is the Santichaiprakarn Pavilion overlooking the river. The park has some grass areas but it is small. It is very close to the Athit Pier so it’s a nice place to find some shade. I was here during a week day but I’ve heard this park is quite lively on weekends.

Lumphini Park

Lumphini Park is 142 acres located in the center of Bangkok. It is used by many locals as a place to jog, exercise and escape the blaring sun as the park offers ample shade throughout. The park was named after the Buddha’s birth place in Nepal. Vendors selling food can be found all around the park and it’s a great place for a picnic. The park is open every day from 4:30am to 11:00pm.

While walking around Lumphini Park, I came upon the Thailand and China Friendship Pavilion. This pavilion commemorated the sisterhood pact between Bangkok and Beijing. This pact was signed in 1993 for the objective of enhanced understanding and cooperation between the two cities. What I found most interesting is the marker identifying the pavilion is in Thai and English. Surprisenly not Chinese. Especially give the fact that more Chinese visit than any other English speaking country.

At the Far East side of the park is a canal of sorts with several clusters of water features. It’s a nice display and a nice place to sit and relax listening to the water. The area is well shaded and the water drowns out some of the street noise. The path way here runs parallel to Witthayu Road.

Address: Alongside Ratchadamri Road / Rama IV Road Directions: A short walk from either Ratchadamri or Sala Daeng Skytrain stations.

Divana Spa

This is a high end spa with a very beautiful tropical entrance. A surprising sight in the concrete jungle of Bangkok. From the driveway entrance, you walk through a forest of plants and water features. Once you enter you remove your shoes and an attendant places them outside. Soothing music is playing as you are asked to sit and review the menu of options. As stated, this is high end and the prices reflect this. The foot massage alone here is 1050 Baht. The average in Bangkok is 300 Baht. You are definitely paying for the decor and atmosphere which is very tranquil. However, there are many places just as tranquil at less than half.

I opted for the anti-stress massage which was a foot, head, neck and shoulder massage. The cost was 1750 Baht! Many places include the same as I received here for 400 Baht. My attendant was nice and did a fine job but no more outstanding than places at a 1/4 the cost.
Great decor and atmosphere but not worth the cost. Better options throughout Bangkok.

The Hudson

This visit (2017) was my first time dinning at The Hudson.  it is located behind a strip of stores, really like the second level but access from a rear parking lot.  They have a modern design with a large square bar, indoor seating and one of the best views for dinning in Sedona on their outdoor deck.  They have a full menu available at the bar so sat their on my first visit.  I notice they had one of my favorite beers on the menu, Weihenstephaner Hefeweissbier, so I was already happy.

I was hungry so ordered a bowl of they corn chowder.  It was so good I ordered it each of the three times I at here this trip. For the main course, I ordered the BBQ Braised Pork Tacos which has pepper jack cheese, vinaigrette slaw, avocado-tomato salsa and topped with a lime cream.  It was so good I also had this my next visit!

Portions are very big so I wasn’t able to try desert here.  The Hudson is my new favorite restaurant in Sedona.  Important to note that although they close at 9pm, as long as you are seating before 9pm they will take you order!

Sedonuts

I stopped in to Sedonuts one morning to check it out.  I’ve heard a lot of buzz and raves about the donuts.  Frankly, I can’t figure out why.

It is a small shop in a strip mall with some seating.  As I walk in a local was exiting telling to hurry before they sell out!  I was exciting to try these donuts.  I was greeted by the husband and wife that own and run the shop.  They had just opened this new business.  Looking through the display glass, I spotted two I wanted to try.  Chocolate glazed.

Unfortunately, these donuts are just average.  A bit dry and small.  Much better can be had at Dunkin Donuts or Krispy Kreme.  I like to support local business so I hope the improve and offer something more unique.
