Flagstaff

A perfect base for adventure!

Flagstaff is the perfect location to plan a northern Arizona adventure any time of year. To the south about 45 minutes away is Sedona, famous for it’s red rocks and hiking trails. Within 30 minutes of Flagstaff to the north is three National Monuments, Wupatki, Sunset Crater and Walnut Canyon.

The forest surrounding the San Fransisco Peaks that over looks Flagstaff are filled with Pines and Aspen. During fall, the Aspen leaves turn a beutiful bright yellow. Combine that with the white bark of the Aspen makes for very impressive views. The fun doesn’t stop in winter with skiing at Snow Bowl on Mt. Humphry’s 20 minutes from town. In spring you can experience the wildflowers blooming on the prairie and the higher altitude of nearly 8000 feet makes summer activities very pleasant.

Because Flagstaff is a college town with Northern Arizona University, there is a hip old town section with great food options. Definitely a great place to base an adventure any time of year!

Bell Rock Inn

Bell Rock Inn is a time share resort own and operated by Diamond Resorts and Hotels.  It’s a large complex with several buildings but only two levels.  In the center is a very nice pool area.  The staff here are extremely helpful.  Check in was easy and they provided information on new restaurants and things to do.

The room was very nice and spacious.  It was an efficiency suite with refrigerator and stove.  The bed was very comfortable and shower always hot.  I had a room on the second floor and was very quiet.  I have heard reports that if you are in a first floor room, you can hear people walking above you.  Because of that I requested the second floor room and staff obliged when I checked in.

The price of this hotel was very reasonable at less that $100 per night during the week and slightly higher on weekends.  I will definitely stay here again!

Saltrock

Saltrock is up there as one of my favorites in Sedona.  It is not that easy to find as it is in the Kimpton Amara Resort set back off Route 89 in the center of Sedona.  It is beautiful setting just off the lobby of the hotel.  They have both indoor and outdoor seating.

Wait staff are very friendly and casual and made excellent recommendations for drinks and food.  We ordered tapas style.  I had the Grilled Corn which is corn off the cob, garlic, spicy aioli, lime and cotija.  I also order the Smoked Chicken Tostada which is made with a layered crispy tortillas, lime crema, guacamole, pico de gallo and salsa verde.  You get two of these which should be enough but it was so good we ordered and two.

This is a great place for Breakfast, lunch or dinner and I will definitely be back!

BTS Skytrain

The BTS Skytrain is by far the easiest way to get around Bangkok.  There are two lines, the Silom Line and the Sukhumvit Line.  I always find a hotel somewhere along the Sukhumvit Line.  That line operates between Mo Chit to Bearing however, they have or are in the process of adding two more stops past Bearing.  The Silom Line operated between the National Stadium and Ba Wang, across the Chao Phraya.

The rail system is very straight forward and inexpensive.  It is an elevated train so you have to walk up however there are a few stations that have escalators.  Once on the first platform, there are ticket stations where you enter coins and a single ride ticket come out.  Each station has a different amount depending on where you are.  The fare ranges from 15 Baht to 52 Baht.  Enter your ticket into the gate for entrance.  The ticket will come out.  Keep this, as you will need it to exit the gate at your destination.

Some important station include Siam, which is a large shopping district and where the Sukhumvit and Silom Line meet for transfers.  On the Silom Line, Saphan Taksin is the station where you can get to the Chao Phraya River Boats after a short walk.  The river boats give you access to Wat Pho, Wat Arun and Wat Phra Kaew.
