Cafe Tartine

This french cafe offers a nice breakfast and is very close to the Pleon Chit BTS station. They have outdoor seating and indoor. It is bright inside and very nice decor. For breakfast the have a sheet of paper where you can select ingredients for an omelet. I chose to go with this, selecting spinach and olives to be added to my omelet. I thought is was very good. It also comes with a small salad and two baguettes. The baguettes however were a bit too hard and not very enjoyable.

I would go here again because it is convenient to get to and the breakfast was good. They also open early at 7am which is hard to find in Bangkok.

Supanniga Eating Room

I looked through the internet for something new and saw several articles about this restaurant and decided to check it out. They are known for there Issan dishes and family recipes. The decor I found to be nice and a bit rustic and clean. there are two floors with a small eating area at a bar as well. This is where I was seated. Turns out this was not a good place to sit as the bartender kept putting all the drinks in front of me for the waitress to pick up.

I asked a few questions about the menu, especially the Kaeng moo chamuang curry. It was recommended in an article and described as sweet pork dish. The waitress described more as a sweet and sour dish, so I ordered it. It was neither sweet nor sour, but spicy and not much other flavors going on. I’m not sure how or why they describe it this way, or maybe the cook screwed up. It was not pleasant. It did not taste terrible but when you are expecting one taste and bit into something completely different, it really takes away from the experience.

Monsoon Cafe

This restaurant was convenient to where I was for the day. It is located in the Adelphi Hotel. They have ample outdoor seating that is covered and seems to have most of this seating protected from the sun. There is also indoor seating available if it is too hot out.  I stopped in for a quick lunch and ordered the Spice Rubbed Pork Tenderloin. This came with asparagus and mashed potatoes. I was looking for the pork to have a little kick to it because of the spice reference. However, the pork had no spice that I can detect and was rather flavorless. The sauce did add flavor but it was not what I expected. Overall it filled me up but would not return.

Bangkok Baking Company

This bakery has modern decor and is location in a Marriott hotel. They have some great chocolate desserts and muffins. But what I found particularly good here is the Chicken Curry filled pastries. Each visit to Bangkok I stop in several times to buy them. Every time I had to travel, I stopped in and bought all they had, usually only 2 or 3. This is one of the places I will miss! You can eat in or take with you. One thing to note, on my first visit here in 2015, I was asked to show them a form of identification to use the wifi. I don’t carry my passport around each time I go out. On one visit the staff were nice enough to let me use the wifi anyway.  However, this most recent visit in May 2017, I was never asked to show identification and was given the password upon request.

The Curry Pastries are only 50 Baht and there are two size muffins, large is 70 Baht and the small is 50 Baht.  Best bakery I found in Bangkok so far!

The Gardens

I stopped here for breakfast one morning. I was happily surprised by what I came upon. This restaurant has beautiful grounds with outdoor seating throughout. There is also indoor seating when things get too hot. Fortunately I was the first one here for breakfast and it was still bearable to eat outside.  The restaurant is on the grounds of the historic Dinsor Palace. The full name of the restaurant is “The Gardens at Dinsor Palace” but locals know it as The Gardens.

I chose a table along a man made pond/pool that was home to two Swans. The Swans swam back and forth through my meal. It was nice to see. I ordered a homemade English-style muffin with egg, cheese and a special maple sausage. This was very good. I also had a pot of Jasmin Tea.

The staff are very friendly and they seemed surprised that I found them and were curious to know how I came to be here. All I told them was searching the internet. From what I can tell this is a fairly new place or at least under new ownership. They’ve done a great job with the grounds and the breakfast was very good. I would definitely return here for lunch and/or dinner.
