Le Du Restaurant

Le Du sounds like it would be a French restaurant but the word Le Du in Thai means “Season.”  This is a highly rated restaurant but I would praobaly have to visit again to see what they are taking about.  I was not impressed with my first visit.  The restaurant has a bit of a rustic feel to it but at the same time, modern.  The staff for very accommodating to me as a walk in.  Reservations are recommended because there is limited seating.

The menu is limited.  Not much to choose from however, they do have more than a few fish options.  I ordered the Massaman Chicken.  After ordering, the staff bring out some small appetizers as a tasting.  Nothing really appealed to me.  After seeing my main course come out, I know why they bring out appetizers not ordered.  The portion is very small.  While the Massaman curry had great flavor, there was not enough for the chicken you, which is also a small portion.  I left still very hungry.

The the amount of food you get at the higher than normal price, you are better off going somewhere else.

Seven Suns

Seven Suns is a new tea house in the Ekkamai section of Sukhumvit Road.  It has a nice modern look with some seating indoor and on a side outdoor patio.  The staff are very knowledgeable in the teas they offer and have a good selection.  I appreciated that the first tea I selected, the staff person advised me that the tea was on the older side and recommended I try another.  That’s excellent costumer service.  The tea is served on a traditional kung fu set.  They also do not serve the tea in one pot of hot water.  They provide you with a thermos of hot water that you can add to your tea pot.  They makes for each cup of tea to be consistent.  Much appreciated by tea lovers.

They also have some desserts and lunch items but the focus is on the tea.

Gelato Lab

This is my favorite place for ice cream and gelato.  They have several flavor of chocolate which includes a Nutella version. They also have banana ice cream. So I had ice cream about 4 times on this recent visit. Each time I got a two scoop cup, one scoop chocolate and the other banana. This was excellent! On one occasion the banana had a purple color. I questioned the staff to make sure I got the right flavor. They said I did and sure enough it was very good banana ice cream. Mixed with the chocolate it was perfect.

The shop is small with bar stool seating inside and a few table outside. They open at 8:30am which I thought was early for an ice cream place but I found myself they one morning at 8:30am because the temperature by that time was already 85 degrees! It’s a little pricey by Cambodia standards at $2.75 for the two scoops. A great deal though in my eyes. This is definitely the place to go for ice cream in Siem Reap.

They recemtly moved to West Alley next to Purple Mangosteen Restaurant.

Dakshin’s

A small place with two levels that is nicely decorated. The owner and wait staff are very friendly and attentive.  I ordered the vegetable samosa to start and for the main course had the Chicken Sagwala. Both were excellent. If I had more time in Siem Reap I would have eaten here a second night.  They also have wifi which was very convenient.

My only complaint was how the bathroom is situated. There is only one, very small and it is right in the dining area. There is no sink in the bathroom but it is just outside in the dining area. They should have a nice wood, self-standing screen that separates this area from the diners.
