Brooklyn Baker

This place can be a little hard to find. It is tucked away on an off the beaten track Soi, near Lumphini Park. It is also part of Retreat on Vitayu, a very nice spa. Hours can be a little difficult because the spa opens at 10am and some web pages and reviews post that as the opening of Brooklyn Baker. The Baker opens at 8:30am but staff told me they close at 3pm.

Anyway, I had the pancakes with banana and a Carmel syrup and candied Walnuts. It was good but the place is a bit out of the way from where I was staying. If you are staying near Lumphini Park, this would be a good breakfast option.

Double Dog Tea Room

I couldn’t miss the oversize word “TEA” in the window of a small shop in Chinatown. As I love tea, I had to stop in, even though it was 95 degrees out. Inside there are traditional tea tables and the wall have tea and tea ware for sale.

Double Dog offers about 12 different teas. They are divided into two categories, standard and superior. I selected from their superior list, Bai Gu Da Shan Oolong. It was very good. If I didn’t have so much tea home I would have bought some to take back.  They also offer two different sets where you can get either 2 or 4 tea cakes. I got the 2 tea cake set. This included my selection of team and one Taro tea cake and one black bean tea cake. It was a perfect compliment to the tea I selected. This cost 210 Baht with unlimited refill for my tea leaves.

It is a shame my hotel is not closer or I would stop in more often. This was something I really enjoyed.

Shangarila Restaurant

This is a nice place with indoor seating right in the heart of Chinatown.  Overwhelmingly decorated in red, with ample seating. There may be more seating in the rear as I was seating in the front room and could not tell. The wait staff are attentive but speak little to no English. However the Hostess speaks well and can assist if pointing on the menu doesn’t work.

I just stopped in for a quick lunch and ordered the Chicken and Cashew. This is a Thai dish that they did very well. They have a good selection of Chinese and Thai dishes. Service was quick and I left very satisfied.  I would repeat here for lunch or dinner when in Chinatown.

Big Mama Tapas

I had been eating a lot of Thai food by this point in the trip. It was good and I enjoy it but wanted to try something different. Went here for tapas but their pizza menu is extensive and it all sounded so good. There is some outdoor seating and the indoor seating is very cool and great to get out of the heat. I was here for lunch. It was so good I went two times.  The price was reasonable but on my second visit I had a dessert that was rather expensive for just chocolate cake.

Favorite Dish: The first time I went I had a personal size pizza with half Thai pizza and the other half basil, mozzarella, and tomato sauce. It was very good. The Thai side was diced chicken in a tasty Thai sauce. It was very good. On my second visit I had just the Thai pizza.

Mango Tree

I had walked past this place a week early and looked nice. I made my way back one day for dinner. There is nice outdoor seating which is great in the evening when the temperature drops. I can’t imagine eating lunch out there.

I ordered the Pad Winsoon. The portion was rather small. It did taste ok but nothing really special. The wait staff were not very attentive even though there were only a few people dining at the same time I was there. I would not repeat.
