The BTS Skytrain is by far the easiest way to get around Bangkok. There are two lines, the Silom Line and the Sukhumvit Line. I always find a hotel somewhere along the Sukhumvit Line. That line operates between Mo Chit to Bearing however, they have or are in the process of adding two more stops past Bearing. The Silom Line operated between the National Stadium and Ba Wang, across the Chao Phraya.
The rail system is very straight forward and inexpensive. It is an elevated train so you have to walk up however there are a few stations that have escalators. Once on the first platform, there are ticket stations where you enter coins and a single ride ticket come out. Each station has a different amount depending on where you are. The fare ranges from 15 Baht to 52 Baht. Enter your ticket into the gate for entrance. The ticket will come out. Keep this, as you will need it to exit the gate at your destination.
Some important station include Siam, which is a large shopping district and where the Sukhumvit and Silom Line meet for transfers. On the Silom Line, Saphan Taksin is the station where you can get to the Chao Phraya River Boats after a short walk. The river boats give you access to Wat Pho, Wat Arun and Wat Phra Kaew.
