Travel and Adventure
I ate at the their cafe in 2014 and it was very good so I decided to give the hotel a try this year. This hotel is near Pub Street which was not a problem for me. The lobby is really non existent and only a small reception desk at a side entrance. The single staff member there at the time spoke limited English. I had reserved a room with two beds so I would have enough room for my baggage. I brought to that type room but the staff member said I should take a room with a single bed. I guess I could have insisted but I was tired and went with the flow. She brought me to a single room that had one bed but no stand or anything to put my suitcase on. Then she showed me to another room that had a closet with shelves so I went with that.
I decided to relax a bit and as I lay on the bed I hear a loud squeaky pulley that was part of a construction site just across the side road from the hotel. I asked the staff how late this would go on for and was told 6pm. Not so bad. But I decided to go out for dinner and as I looked around the room I could not find a security safe. I went to the front desk and this was a long process to describe what a room safe is. So I learned the hotel does not have security safes. If I wanted to leave something valuable when I was out of the room I would have to leave it with the front desk. I really was not comfortable with this. Now it was 7:30 pm and the construction noise was still going on.
I told the staff I would like to check out. While at dinner I stopped in a nearby hotel and they had rooms available. I haven’t found that the hotel charged me yet but while checking out they said they would charge me the full amount. The website I booked through said it would only be a one night charge. So I’m waiting to see how it plays out.
I wouldn’t stay here because of the security. The room door lock is easily overcome with a credit card and a little skill. I am surprise at the lack of a room safe considering it is easy to get to the rooms from the restaurant area and never having to walk past the lobby desk.
