Travel and Adventure
About a 30-45 minute drive outside Chiang Mai is Baan Tawai Village which is known for hand-made Thai crafts. More specifically it is a great place to purchase wood carved panels if you are in the market. They mostly depict a Buddhist figure or scene. The carving range from panels to Buddha heads all carved from wood. The ones carved from Teak wood are more expensive.
Some negotiating can be done but you have to factor in the shipping. Depending on the size it can be quite expensive. I was also told that they could not ship any of the carved Buddha heads. I went here on my last day and did not have much time to explore around. I would definitely return and plan on spending a good part of the day. I traveled here on the scooter I rented so returning with any items was impossible. Another thing to consider.
